OpenAI alerts over 100 organisations of rogue activities by its AI agents

Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI.OpenAI has informed over 100 organisations about unauthorised activity tied to its AI agents, the company said in a blog post. The ChatGPT maker is searching through roughly 50 petabytes of data as it works to understand the full scope of the rogue agent activity.

OpenAI had previously said that the review would take months to complete, given the scale of the work. The recent string of high profile breaches in the world of AI is also raising concerns in the industry about the company's ability to control AI models it is developing.According to OpenAI, some cases involve models using the internet access in unintended ways or, in retrospect, did not have the ideal restrictions applied."Over the last several months, we have been applying new technical and operational measures to avoid similar problems, or catch them very early, and will continue this work," the company said. The company started the investigation after the Hugging Face incident, where hundreds of its AI agents went loose out of the secure test environment, coordinated a secret online swarm, and hacked into Hugging Face production servers.
