Amazon to invest additional $13 billion in India for AI, cloud expansion

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Prime Minister Narendra ModiAmazon on Thursday announced an additional $13 billion investment in India by 2030 to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure, Reuters reported.The company said that the investment will be used to strengthen AI and cloud infrastructure across its Mumbai and Hyderabad regions.The fresh commitment comes on top of the $35 billion investment plan announced last year, taking the company’s total planned investment in India to $48 billion through 2030.The announcement followed a meeting between Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday.“Shared that we are investing $48 billion over the coming five years, including $21+ billion in AI and cloud infrastructure,” Jassy said in a post on social media platform X.— ajassy (@ajassy)The investment adds to a series of large commitments by US technology companies as India emerges as a key market for AI, cloud computing and digital infrastructure.Microsoft has pledged $17.5 billion for AI and cloud infrastructure in India, while Google has committed $15 billion over the next five years to build AI data centres in the country, Reuters reported.
